CAN DO! to host free Summer event at Dorothy Nyembe Park

In celebration of Soweto's singer and queen of dance, Chomee's 27th birthday that took place on Sunday, 6 October, CAN DO! will host their first free Summer event from 10:00 to 17:00 at Dorothy Nyembe Park in Meadowlands, Soweto on Sunday, 13 October.

CAN DO!, Nampak Bevcan's consumer facing brand, will partner with top musicians and DJs to host a can-only day filled with summer sun and South Africa's freshest sounds.

Various performers including Euphonik, Glen Lewis, Chomee, Arthur Mafokate, CAN DO!’s New Creation and winners of the U CAN DO IT! reality talent search, The Maples will perform at this can-only event.

Guests are encouraged to fill their picnic baskets, bring their own beverages in cans and enjoy a day outdoors with family and friends.

"Because cans are safer, cooler and more environmentally friendly than other types of beverage packaging, we encourage people to make the greenest choice by choosing their beverages in cans, while at the same time supporting talented local performers," says Alexandra Bouwer, marketing manager for Nampak Bevcan’s CAN DO! brand.

Collect-a-Can, southern African can recovery company, will be collecting all empty cans after the event to be recycled.

"We believe that it is our responsibility to pro-actively minimise the impact of beverage cans and other metal packaging on the environment," says Bouwer. "Currently the recycling rate of all beverage cans recycled in South Africa is estimated at 72%, significantly more than any other form of beverage packaging in South Africa."

Entrance to the event is free and the first 5000 entrants will receive a free Arthur Mafokate CD.
